Vertical Blinds

The standard vane width is 89mm, which suits most residential windows and sliding doors in Dubai apartments and townhouses. Wider 127mm vanes are available for a more contemporary, architectural look and are increasingly popular in larger villa rooms and commercial spaces. Narrower vanes create more folds in the stack when fully open, while wider vanes give a cleaner, less cluttered look when the blind is drawn to one side.

Vertical blinds with a blackout fabric vane can block 90 to 95% of light when the vanes are fully closed, but a small amount of light enters at the top head rail and through the small gap between adjacent vanes. For true blackout performance in a Dubai bedroom, vertical blinds are not the ideal solution. A blackout roller blind or blackout curtain provides a more complete seal. Vertical blinds are excellent for living rooms, home offices, and sliding door areas where complete blackout is not required.

Air conditioning is a consideration with vertical blinds because the air flow from ceiling and wall vents can cause the fabric vanes to sway gently when the AC is running. This is normal and does not damage the blind. To minimise movement, position the blinds so the vanes face parallel to the main airflow rather than perpendicular to it. Heavier fabric vanes sway less than lightweight ones. PVC and aluminium vanes are completely unaffected by air conditioning.

Well-maintained vertical blinds with solution-dyed polyester or PVC vanes typically last 8 to 12 years in Dubai. The vanes themselves are the most commonly replaced component. Individual vanes can be swapped out without replacing the entire blind if one is damaged or faded. The head rail mechanism is very durable. Fabric vanes in direct intense sunlight may show fading after 5 to 7 years without UV-resistant fabric treatment.
