Wooden Blinds in Dubai FAQs

Real wood slats can warp in rooms with direct intense sun exposure or variable humidity, both common in Dubai. South- and west-facing windows receive hours of direct sunlight daily that can dry and split natural wood over time. Rooms that open to outdoor areas or experience significant temperature swings between day and night are also higher risk. For these locations, Dream Drapes recommends premium faux-wood blinds, which are visually identical to real wood but will not warp, crack, or fade under Dubai conditions.

Real wood slats are cut from genuine timber, typically paulownia or basswood, and have the natural grain variation and warmth that comes with the material. Faux-wood slats are manufactured from high-density PVC composite, engineered to replicate the look of real wood grain and available in the same colour range. Faux-wood costs slightly less, is fully moisture-resistant, will not warp or discolour, and weighs less than real wood, making operation smoother on wider windows. In practice, the visual difference at normal viewing distance is indistinguishable.

50mm slats are the most popular choice for Dubai villas, providing a bold, contemporary look that suits the generous proportions of rooms in Arabian Ranches, The Springs, Dubai Hills, and similar communities. 35mm slats give a more refined, traditional appearance and are popular in study rooms and smaller windows. 25mm slats are used in commercial spaces or small windows where a tighter, more formal grid suits the space. Wider slats also allow more light in when tilted open, which is useful for rooms that need natural light control.

Wipe each slat with a dry microfibre cloth or use a purpose-made blind duster that cleans several slats at once. For real wood slats, avoid water as it can cause swelling and leave watermarks. For faux-wood slats, a lightly damp cloth is safe and effective for removing accumulated dust and fingerprints. Dubai's construction dust settles quickly, so a light weekly wipe keeps the blinds looking clean. Deep cleaning of real wood blinds should be done by a professional to avoid moisture damage.

Yes. Every wooden blind supplied by Dream Drapes is custom-cut to your exact window width to the nearest millimetre. There are no standard sizes. We measure each window individually during the free home visit. The headrail, slats, and bottom rail are all cut and assembled to the specified width. For windows wider than 2.4 metres, we typically install two blinds side by side with a shared centre bracket for the cleanest finish.

Wooden blinds provide good privacy and partial light control for bedrooms but do not achieve full blackout. When the slats are fully closed, light still enters through the small gaps between slats and around the headrail. For Dubai bedrooms, wooden blinds work well as the primary window treatment in rooms that face north or east, where morning sun is manageable. For south- and west-facing bedrooms, pairing the wooden blind with a blackout curtain panel gives you complete darkness when needed.
