It draws power continuously and never needs charging and is the preferred choice for daily use and for heavier blinds. A battery-powered motor runs from a rechargeable lithium battery pack that typically lasts 1 to 2 years on a single charge depending on how often the blind is operated. Battery motors require no electrical work, making them suitable for Dubai apartments and villas where building management restrictions prevent new wiring runs. Both types offer identical smart home integration.

Yes. All motorized blinds supplied by Dream Drapes include a handheld remote control that operates the blind directly via radio frequency without any internet connection. A wall-mounted push-button switch can also be wired as an alternative to the remote. Smart app control and voice commands through Alexa or Google Home require a WiFi-connected hub such as the Somfy TaHoma, but the fundamental open and close operation always works independently of the internet.

Somfy-motorized blinds are compatible with the widest range of home automation platforms available in Dubai, including Somfy TaHoma, KNX, Crestron, Lutron, Control4, and standard Zigbee and Z-Wave ecosystems. With a Somfy TaHoma hub or compatible smart home controller, motorized blinds can be programmed with a daily schedule: open at sunrise, close at a set afternoon time to block peak heat, and reopen in the evening. The schedule can use an astronomical clock that adjusts automatically to Dubai's sunrise and sunset times throughout the year, so you never need to manually update the timer as the seasons change. Temperature-triggered automation is also possible with compatible sensors.
