Roller Blinds

A cassette headrail is an enclosed aluminium housing that covers the rolled fabric tube and the mechanism at the top of the blind. Without a cassette, the rolled fabric is exposed and collects dust quickly in Dubai's environment. With a cassette, the fabric rolls into a closed box, reducing dust accumulation and giving a much cleaner, more finished appearance. Dream Drapes recommends cassette headrails as standard for all Dubai installations, and the visual improvement and reduced maintenance easily justify the small additional cost.

Yes, if the window recess is at least 5 to 6cm deep, which most Dubai apartment windows are. A recess-mounted roller blind sits completely inside the window frame with no brackets visible on the wall, giving a very clean, minimal appearance. The disadvantage is that the blind cannot be wider than the recess, so there is some light bleed around the edges. For complete light blocking, a face-fixed roller blind (mounted above the window frame on the wall or ceiling) gives a fuller coverage.

Most roller blind fabrics can be produced to a maximum width of 3.5 to 4 metres without a visible center join, depending on the fabric type. For windows wider than this, including panoramic glazing in villas and high-rise penthouses, two roller blinds are hung side by side on a shared headrail, with the join centred precisely over a window mullion or mullion-free depending on the specification. For routine cleaning, wipe the fabric surface with a clean, lightly damp microfibre cloth while the blind is fully lowered. Wipe from top to bottom in one smooth motion to avoid pushing dust into the weave. For a more thorough clean, lower the blind fully, spray the surface lightly with a mild detergent solution, wipe clean, and allow to dry completely before rolling up, since rolling a damp blind traps moisture and can cause mould in the core. Dubai's dust means a light wipe every 2 to 3 weeks keeps the blinds looking new.

Yes, in most cases a roller blind tube can be fitted with a tubular motor at a later date without replacing the entire blind. The fabric is removed from the manual tube, the manual mechanism is replaced with a motorized tube of the same diameter, and the fabric is re-attached. If a future motorization upgrade is likely, inform us during the initial installation and we will specify a motor-compatible tube diameter from the outset.
